“Ascension” (to spirituality) , mixed media and gold leaf on 3D canvas 73x60 cm

Spiritual ascension, also known as spiritual awakening, is a natural evolutionary process which involves the process of shedding the old self and experiencing an inner rebirth.

In my painting this ascension is represented by two symbols that both represent the new cycle: the firebird (inspiration after Brancusi sculpture) and flower of life.

Brâncuși believed in the necessity and regenerative power of great symbols. Stylizing his birds, he tended to the abstract meaning of the bird myth, that of responding to the call of the Sun and achieving ascension.

Flower of Life is a visual representation of the interconnectedness of life and all beings.

The firebird gives mankind hope and urges us to fight on. It asks us to keep up the human spirit. It states over and over that death isn’t the end and that the soul is always indestructible.
